Frequently Asked Questions

For more detail, read our guide to the EU GARAN label and its design requirements.

What is the GARAN label?

The GARAN label is an official EU commercial guarantee of durability label introduced by the European Commission. It allows producers to voluntarily communicate the duration of their commercial guarantee to consumers in a standardised, trustworthy format recognised across all EU member states.

Which label type should I choose?

Choose Color for most digital and print use cases — it has the highest visual impact. Use Black & White when printing in monochrome or when color printing is not available. The Nested variant is a compact horizontal strip designed to be embedded alongside other EU labels (e.g. energy efficiency labels) on product packaging.

What duration values are allowed?

The duration must be a whole number of up to two digits (e.g. 3, 12). Half-year values are permitted only for single-digit numbers — use a comma as the decimal separator (e.g. 2,5 or 4,5). Other decimals such as 4,1 or 4,2 are not permitted by the EU guidelines.

What is "Brand / Trademark"?

This is the name of the producer or brand that is offering the commercial guarantee of durability. It should match the brand name that consumers will recognise on the product packaging.

What is "Model identifier"?

The model identifier is the specific product model code or name for which the guarantee applies. It links the label unambiguously to the exact model being sold, so consumers and authorities can verify the guarantee.

What is the difference between SVG, PNG, and JPEG?

SVG is a vector format — it scales to any size without loss of quality and is the recommended choice for most uses. PNG is a raster format with a transparent background, suitable for overlaying the label on other artwork. JPEG is a raster format with a white background; use it only when the receiving system does not support SVG or PNG.

What data is collected when I use this tool?

Label generation in the editor happens entirely in your browser — the duration, brand, and model identifier you enter are never sent to our servers.

Should I customise the GARAN label further?

No. The layout, colours, fonts, and proportions of the GARAN label are defined by the European Commission and may not be altered. Only the three editable fields — duration, brand/trademark, and model identifier — can be changed. Any other modification would render the label non-compliant with EU regulations.
