The EU harmonised notice on the legal guarantee of conformity
Regulation (EU) 2025/1960 defines two instruments. The GARAN label is the voluntary one. This is the other: a notice that sellers must display at the point of sale, reminding consumers of rights they already have.
DuraTag does not generate this notice

Two different guarantees
The legal guarantee of conformity and the commercial guarantee of durability are independent of each other. The notice and the label are designed to complement each other and cross-reference the differences, but they do very different jobs.

What the notice has to do
Articles 5 and 6 of the Consumer Rights Directive require traders to remind consumers, before they are bound by a contract, that the legal guarantee of conformity exists. That reminder has to be prominent, and it has to use this harmonised notice. According to the regulation's recitals, the notice:
- states the main elements of the guarantee, including its minimum duration of two years;
- notes that national law may provide a longer duration;
- reminds consumers of the remedies available if goods are not in conformity;
- explains that sellers are liable to provide those remedies under certain conditions;
- gives practical steps to take on receiving non-conforming goods;
- points out that sellers and producers may additionally offer commercial guarantees, including a commercial guarantee of durability.
Design rules
Annex I of the regulation sets these out. They are simpler than the label's, because nothing is editable:
